SEA TURTLE RESTORATION PROJECT

 Dear Members:

The Turtle Island Restoration Network is still making efforts to change the law that prevents state law enforcement from enforcing the Endangered Species Act, specifically to take appropriate action to repeal the laws prohibiting enforcement of TED's.

Jeff Dorson with Humane Society of Louisiana is attempting to obtain a meeting with an appropriate representative about this matter, as noted in a copy of his email to Ms. Parker with the Governor's Office as shown below.

We're asking you to take a few minutes of your time to help our Louisiana marine life by emailing Carole Allen with Turtle Island at carole@seaturtles.org supporting their efforts on our behalf.

Please also email Mary Parker at the Governor's Office requesting that she schedule an appointment to solidify a comprehensive discussion about the importance of this needed action on the part of Wildlife and Fisheries.

============================
Ms. Parker,

I hope you are doing well.  I'm following up my previous communications by email and phone to you regarding the protection of sea turtles in Louisiana waters and the use of turtle escape hatches known as Turtle Excluder Devices ("TEDs") in our shrimping and fishing trawling industries.  As we know, Louisiana is the only state in our union which discourages the enforcement of the federal laws that require their use.

I hope to hear from you soon and that you will be gracious enough to accommodate our request to set up a meeting with one of your representatives.  There is growing interest in this issue by your constituents, and it's important that our government provide us with the means to voice our opinions and concerns.  I am copying some of our key personnel who have an interest on this subject, and we patiently await your response.

Sincerely yours,

Jeff Dorson
Director
