From the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office:
On
Monday, March 21st, 2011, the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint from
the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office in reference to an alleged theft of a "Police Dog". The Winn Parish Deputy
making the complainant advised GPSO investigators that on or about November 4th, 2010, the
Winn Parish Sheriff's Office loaned a certified "Police Patrol Dog" to the Colfax Police Department, specifically
Colfax Chief of Police Kraig Fussell. The complainant further alleged sometime over the past three months Chief Fussell
took this same dog that was loaned to the town and sold the animal without the rightful owners consent.
After
the initial complaint was filed, criminal investigators with the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office immediately initiated an
investigation into this allegation. As a result of this investigation, investigators obtained three arrest warrants
for Kraig D. Fussell, a 37yoa, white/male, residing in Dry Prong, LA. The arrest warrants were for one count of Felony
Theft and two counts of Malfeasance in Office.
On March 29th, 2011, Mr. Fussell surrendered
to the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office and was arrested and booked into the parish jail on the aforesaid warrants. He was
later released on bond. The criminal case file will now be forwarded to the Grant Parish District Attorney's Office
for prosecution.
