Yogie and Friends Needs Help! The only licensed exotic cat sanctuary in LouisianaHi All, Well, as you must know with any non-profit there are always issues we must deal with.
Yogie and Friends usually has some pretty unique ones since we deal with unique animals and their special needs. The food
is one of the biggest ones. This past week we've been seeing a problem with the freezer we store the big cat food in.
Because of the type of food we have, how much it weighs (70-80 pound bags of whole meat and bones) we cannot store it in any
facility that handles food for human consumption. Sadly, the offers to do so cannot be used. And, there is over 20,000 pounds
of meat to unload and transport and it truly is not practicle. I just spoke with Tim. He was in Shreveport
getting information and specs to replace the refrigeration unit on our large, walk-in freezer. This unit will be better, more
efficient, NEW, and designed for easier repair access, which means all parts will be outside of the freezer box reducing the
need to move food around and cut into the walls, etc. Tim is a Heating and Ventilation (HVAC) master technician and that saves
us in labor costs of more than $200 per hour. BUT, the unit is going to cost in excess of $6000. I told him I would take out
a personal loan to pay for it until we can get donations and possible grants (which are very, very limited). I should hear
from Tim today regarding the costs so I can add them to a grant I already have written for something else, but this is the
most critical need. We are also going to purchase a power generator dedicated to the freezer for backup since power goes out
in Frierson all the time. Even when the whether is good. If you know anyone who would be willing to donate
funds to help with this is would be greatly appreciated. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and your donations are tax deductible.
None of us receive any pay for the work we do. We are truly a 100% volunteer driven organization. On another
note. Our extension for the deadline with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is July 10th. I'm going to
request another extension. Not sure if they will grant it. If they don't I truly don't know what that means other
than I know we will not be allowed to be open to the public. Not sure if they will try and make us give up the animals or
not. I'm working on this issue more than you can imagine. Do I sound stressed? :-) I'm not giving up. Believe me. Please crosspost and share. We have great fans and supporters and need you more than ever. For
the cats! Jenny Yogie and Friends Exotic Cat Sanctuary. 128 Fob Lane Frierson,

Important News regarding fostering of rescued animalsFor years there was no official ruling on the subject of the tax deductibility of expenses a person incurs
when taking care of foster pets on behalf of a bona fide 501(c)3 not for profit entity. This ruling referenced below by the
tax court declares that these expenses to the extent that they are documented and justifiable are now officially deductible.
This ruling can be used in any state as a basis for taking this deduction. It is also not a carte blanche in that the
expenses must be incurred for pets fostered for the not for profit, receipts are required and the amount spent must
be acknowledged in writing by the not for profit. Thus food for stray cats is not deductible but food for foster cats is deductible
as a charitable contribution. There are of course other rules and limits and you should consult your tax preparer for detailed
information. Nevertheless it is great news for people who foster pets. This ruling paves the way for you
to deduct the expenses that you have incurred for animal care. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304778304576377744105236346.html?mod=WSJ_WSJ_US_News_6

Legislative Action Needed!HB 170, the deletion of the loophole in the sterilization bill,
is going to be heard by the Senate Agricultural Committee on Tuesday, June 14, at 10 am. Below is a link to the Committee Members...please email them and let them know how important this
bill is to helping end the massive killings and overpopulation of animals in our state. ADDITION: HCR 160, by Tony Ligi, representative from the Metairie area,
has introduced this resolution which essentially "Urges and requests local governments to discontinue the use of gas chambers in animal control offices at the earliest possible date." This
is a resolution only; it has no legal standing, but is more of a suggestion by the legislature that it is the right thing
to do, but nonetheless, an important one. These are the only 2 issues to be heard before the Ag Committee on Tuesday, so let's get
their attention! See link
below for contact information...and as always, THANK YOU!
