Here are talking points:

  • I am calling to ask Senator [last name] to co-sponsor the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (S. 810) because [personalize with your reason].
  • Chimpanzees in laboratories suffer physically and psychologically, and it is unethical to continue to use them in experiments.
  • This bill will save $300 million in federal tax dollars over 10 years, helping to reduce the deficit.

We are committed to ending the exploitation of chimpanzees held captive in laboratories this Congress, so we need your help to pass this important legislation. Ending chimpanzee experiments in the United States will affect more than 1,000 individuals. The bill will save them from lives of painful experiments in stressful laboratory environments where their emotional, physical, and psychological needs cannot be met.

Over the last few months, major scientific journals and major media outlets such as Scientific American and the New York Times have published opinion pieces declaring that it’s time to ban research on chimpanzees.

Join our fight to end the unethical and ineffective use of chimpanzees in experimentation. Your members of Congress need to know that you care about this issue.

Please call your members of Congress and urge them to support this historic bill and tell us what their reply was.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Kucinich

Golden Meadow to hold nutria hunting rodeo
GOLDEN MEADOW, La, (AP) — It might not look as good over the fireplace as a nice tarpon, but organizers are saying bagging a nutria at the Dec. 3 rodeo will be just as much fun

Sassafras Louisiana — a coastal advocacy group — will host the Nutria Rodeo in Golden Meadow. Enrolled hunters and fishermen can compete to take down some of the area's biggest invasive pests, take home prizes and help save the coast.

Categories include nutria, Asian carp, feral swine and coyote.

Admission to the rodeo is free, but to have a catch weighed you must buy a ticket.
