Updates on Hearings
SB 370/Wildlife taking by the entertainment industry passed, of course, favorably by House Resource Committee.
HB 231/Ban on sale of dogs and cats at certain locations passed the senate today with a unanimous vote.  However, Sen. Peacock from Bossier added an amendment at the last minute that took out flea markets and parking lots.  HSUS strongly believes these 2 locations should added back in, as do we all. When it goes back to the House, Rep Ligi will object and hopefully get it amended back. Also HSUS will ask Sen Walsworth to move his bill forward as a backup; that is the bill that gives parishes the option.  (Information furnished by Julia Breaux with HSUS)

SB 370/Allowed taking of wildlife for entertainment purposes

SB 370
(click for full text of bill) will be heard before the House Committee on Natural Resources and Environment on
Wednesday, May 9, 2012  9:30 am.

This bill will provide for special permits and licenses for the entertainment industry to take and possess certain wildlife, wild birds or the plumage, skins, nests, eggs, or young thereof and wild quadrupeds, the skins or young thereof, for entertainment purposes.

In our
words,  "reality TV."  This is yet another venue for animal exploitation (legal stealing) by movie production companies of our wildlife, their eggs, babies, skins for purely profit and entertainment purposes.

Please address your emails to Rep. Gordon Dove, Sr., Chairman, and all Committee Members to OPPOSE this bill.  Click here for all addresses, or in the alternative, copy and paste addresses below.

HB 231-Ligi/Ban to sell dogs and cats at certain locations
CONGRATULATIONS everyone!  HB 231, as presented, has passed Senate Judiciary C Committee this morning.  Ms. Rita Tucker from the Monroe area spoke at the hearing, and Ms. Diane Briggs was also there in support but did not speak, along with, of course, Representative Ligi and Julia Breaux with HSUS.  We thank Rita and Diane for making what must have been a very long trip.  Now is the time to email your senators and request that they vote YES and make this bill law.
